The Arts are an integral part of a well-rounded education in PGCPS. We believe that engaging in artistic expression fosters creativity, critical thinking, problem-solving skills, and emotional development. Our arts program aims to cultivate artistic talent and appreciation in all students.

The William S. Schmidt Outdoor Education Center, Arts Integration strategy, Junior Achievement (JA) Finance Park, and the Howard B. Owens Science Center offer students unique opportunities to expand knowledge and engage in hands-on learning beyond the classroom.

Prince George's County Public Schools (PGCPS) offers a diverse range of educational experiences designed to cater to various student interests and learning styles. Among these are the Specialty Programs, which provide an expansion of curricular options for students in Pre K-12 by providing students with a choice of unique learning opportunities focused on a specific interest.

  • #️⃣ A PGCPS student information number is required to apply for a Specialty Program. 

Each specialty program has specific eligibility requirements. Generally, these may include:

  • ✅ Automatic Consideration
  • 📅 Application Period for Pre K-8 Lottery Specialty Programs
      • November 1, 2025 -  February 6, 2026
  • 🎟️ Talented and Gifted Lottery
      • November 1, 2025 - March 13, 2026
  • 🗓️ Application Period for Grades 6-8 Creative and Performing Arts programs
      • October 6, 2025 - December 12, 2025
  • 📋 Creative and Performing Arts (CPA) Auditions
      • January 2026
  • 🧾 PSAT Administration for PGCPS 8th-grade students
      • October 
  • ✅ All currently enrolled 8th-grade students are automatically considered for admission into the Aerospace Engineering and Aviation Technology and Science and Technology Programs 
  • 📅 Application Period for PGCPS 9th-grade students and external students interested in Science and Tech (S&T), AEAT, and the Academy of Health Sciences (AHS)
