Prince George’s County Public Schools provides a comprehensive Visual Art program for students in grades PreK–12. Through engaging instruction and hands-on experiences, students explore various aspects of visual art, develop visual literacy, and cultivate an appreciation for the visual arts.
The Visual Art curriculum supports a broad understanding of artistic techniques and creative expression. Students have opportunities to work with a variety of media, including drawing, painting, ceramics, sculpture, printmaking, collage, mixed media, and digital art. In addition, students learn about the history of art and its connections to culture, society, and global perspectives.
To celebrate and showcase student work, the Visual Art Department sponsors several exhibitions, including the North, Central, and South Countywide Art Exhibits. Students may also participate in select statewide art exhibitions.
The Visual Art Office supports teachers in delivering high-quality instruction by providing curriculum guidance, lesson planning assistance, and demonstration lessons. Central office staff are available to conduct informal and formal observations and to offer targeted professional development, including training in arts integration strategies and instructional best practices.
The PGCPS Visual Art program is committed to inspiring creativity, building artistic skills, and preparing students to engage with visual culture both in and beyond the classroom.
