Dear Parents and Guardians,
Welcome to Glassmanor Elementary School. I want to introduce myself to you and your family, my name is Mrs. Joanne Taylor, and I am the Certified, Professional School Counselor, grades K-5 for the 2025-2026 School Year. My Undergraduate degree is from the University of Pittsburgh and earned a Masters Degree in Elementary Counseling from Villanova University, awarded a Fellowship in Education from Howard University.
I am excited and honored to return to this amazing team of educators and staff. I look forward to meeting you and helping your children succeed to meet their social, academic, and future career goals for this school year and beyond.
Our school will offer counseling services, as an additional resource to help your student succeed in their academic goals as well as support social and emotional growth throughout the school year. Counseling sessions in a school setting are typically short-term in nature and focus on solutions to help your child succeed in all areas of their development.
Counseling activities can include individual or group counseling, whole class presentations and observations. Many of these activities will focus on helping students learn ways to build positive social skills, gain confidence in their ability to interact with others and learn ways to cope with problems and conflicts constructively.
The counseling curriculum will focus on the American School Counseling Association, national model, of socially academic and College and Career Readiness.
Counseling sessions typically meet once a week for thirty minutes, at a time arranged with teachers. Your student may be referred to counseling from a teacher, staff member or from you as a parent/guardian. To make a referral, you may telephone the school. The counseling office phone number (301) 749-4240 ex 53794
A permission slip for all counseling services will need to be signed by the students’ parents or guardians and returned to the counseling office before your child can participate in group and individual counseling.
I am happy to work with your children and have over twenty years’ experience working in the Public School System, as a Professional School Counselor, and hope to meet all the families that make Glassmanor such a wonderful school.
Sincerely,
Mrs. Joanne Taylor M.Ed
