Welcome Letter

Dear Kenmoor Families and Community,

I hope you and your loved ones have enjoyed a summer filled with quality time together-whether that meant family trips, backyard barbecues, or simply slowing down to reconnect. As we open our doors for another exciting school year, our third in our beautiful new building, I want to thank you for your trust, your commitment, and the partnership that makes Kenmoor Middle School a place where students can thrive.

At Kenmoor, we know that academic success is strongest when schools and families work together. This year, our theme, “Igniting Excellence Through High-Quality Instruction,” will guide our work as we continue proven practices and introduce new initiatives designed to strengthen teaching, learning, and school culture.

What’s New and What’s Continuing This Year:

    • Grade-level restructuring: Additional sections at each grade level mean we have eliminated split teams. Students will now remain with a consistent group of grade level peers and teachers, creating stronger relationships, better communication, and more focused support.
    • Revised schedules: Dedicated Professional Learning Community (PLC) time during the school day will allow teachers to meet regularly, review student work, and plan collaboratively to meet individual student needs.
    • Expanded academic opportunities: Honors classes and foreign language courses will now be available for our Comprehensive students to ensure they are appropriately challenged.
    • Improved lunch structure: Transitions will no longer interrupt lunch periods, giving students a calmer and more student-centered experience.
    • More ELD classes: Expanded English Language Development offerings will provide more targeted support for our multilingual learners.

We will also continue Academic Advisory blocks, now extended to 60 minutes for greater academic support and enrichment. In addition, weekly data-driven meetings will focus on student work, particularly writing—to help teachers quickly identify skill gaps and adjust instruction accordingly.

Our instructional priorities this year include:

    • Co-Teaching Models and Differentiated/Small-Group Instruction
    • Explicit Modeling and Constructive Feedback for Revisions
    • Use of Rubrics, Formative Assessments, and Writing Across Content Areas

We will also continue to nurture our students’ social and emotional growth through restorative practices that build strong, inclusive classroom communities. Each grade level will have a Peer Mediator to help resolve conflicts and organize monthly PBIS events celebrating positive behavior and exemplary attendance.
