What does your customer want to do on your website? Think about what your customer/client/parent/student wants to find out or do. How do you present your content to make it easiest for your customer to reach their goal? All other information on your website is “noise” and should be removed or relegated to sub-pages or links to learn more.
Task-based focus on all content
Customer-centered focus, not office-centered or administration-centered
Do things in steps
Provide consistency (section titles, headings, buttons, etc.) across similar pages so your visitor will not be surprised or confused navigating page to page
How does your site look on a phone? Keep your pages easily scannable by the eye (headings, bullet points, white space). View your pages on a mobile device. The majority of your audience will view web pages on mobile.
Leave it off or hide it. Nice-to-haves or internal-PGCPS info directives (i.e. mission, vision, core values, etc.) should be left off the site, if possible, or on a sub-page
Write in plain language - not PGCPS-jargon, but in language that your customer will use.
Do not put information in graphics - unless you provide a complete textual equivalent. All information must be legible by a screen reader. An infographic would not be accessible by a screen reader.
